VPN Instructions

iPhone / iPad

NOTE: Documented using iOS version 10.2

  1. Settings -> General -> VPN -> Add VPN Connection
  2. Type - Set to L2TP
  3. Description - Set to KDC VPN (or whatever you want)
  4. Server - Set to
  5. Account - Set to DomainName\UserName (e.g. KDC\JohnDoe)
  6. RSA SecurID - Disabled
  7. Password - (Leave Blank)
  8. Secret - Set to lrh123!
  9. Send All Traffic - Enabled

Windows 10

  1. Start Menu -> Search "VPN" -> Click Change virtual private networks (VPN)
  2. Click Add a VPN connection
  3. VPN provider: Windows (built-in)
  4. Connection Name: KDC VPN
  5. Server name or address:
  6. VPN type: L2TP/IPsec with pre-shared key
  7. Pre-shared key: lrh123!
  8. Type of sign-in info: User name and password
  9. User name (optional): DomainName\UserName (e.g. KDC\JohnDoe)
  10. Password (optional): (leave blank)
  11. Checkmark: Remember my sign-in info
  12. Click Save
  13. After the VPN connection is created, click Change adapter options
  14. Right-click on KDC VPN (or whatever you called it) and left-click Properties
  15. Click the Options tab.
  16. Change Idle time before hanging up to 1 hour
  17. Click the Security tab.
  18. Data encryption: Set to Require encryption (disconnect if server declines)
  19. Checkmark: Allow these protocols:
    Check: Unencrypted password (PAP)
    Uncheck: Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP)
    Uncheck: Microsoft CHAP Version 2 (MS-CHAP v2)
  20. Click the Advanced settings button
  21. Under the Use preshared key for authentication type the key here as well: lrh123!
  22. Click OK and close all windows

Windows 7

  1. Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> View network status
  2. Click Connect to a workplace
  3. Click Use my Internet connection (VPN)
  4. Set the following and click Next:
    Internet address:
    Destination name: KDC VPN
    Uncheck: Use a smart card
    Uncheck: Allow other people to use this connection
    Uncheck: Don't connect now
  5. Connect to a Workplace - Set the following and click Create:
    User name: UserName (e.g. JohnDoe)
    Password: (leave blank)
    Uncheck: Show characters
    Uncheck: Remember this password
    Domain (optional): DomainName (e.g. KDC)
  6. The connection is ready to use - Click Close
  7. Network and Sharing Center - Click Change adapter settings
  8. Right-click on KDC VPN and left-click on Properties
  9. General tab - Verify address is
  10. Options tab - Make sure to Uncheck the "Include Windows logon domain" option
  11. Options tab - Change Idle time before hanging up to 1 hour and Check Redial if line is dropped
  12. Security tab - Change Type of VPN to Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPsec (L2TP/IPSec)
  13. Security tab - Check Unencrypted password (PAP), Uncheck all other methods (CHAP and MS-CHAP v2)
  14. Security tab - Click the Advanced settings button, select Use preshared key for authentication and set the key to lrh123!
